Topics Covered This Year:
Our goal has been to have our Pathshala students be able to perform Chaityavandan on their own when they visit the Dehrasar. The emphasis has been less on memorization of Sutras and more on them being able to read and pronounce the Sutras properly. In addition, we wanted to provide them with a high level meaning behind the sutras and vidhi. We embarked on this goal last year and this year we have continued on that path.
Each student was provided a transliterated Chaityavandan Sutra and Vidhi (procedure). Each syllable was separated so that students can learn to pronounce the Sanskrit or Prakrit words easily. In addition, each student was provided an Audio CD, so that they can practice the pronunciations at home. By the end of this pathshala year, we will have completed the Chaityavandan Sutra and Vidhi.
In order to make this dry subject more interesting, we use multi-media techniques. For each Sutra, we try to show an image that the student can easily understand and remember. These images than remind the students the meaning of the sutra that they are reciting. In addition, we taught them the various poses one has to assume during the Chaityavandan vidhi.
